This year’s qualifier promises to be more than a dance battle—it’s a cultural statement. With events ranging from the adrenaline-pumping 7-to-Smoke Breaking Battle and 7-to-Smoke All Style Battle to dedicated Kids Battles and an immersive dance workshop, the championship aims to elevate Ghana’s urban dance culture to the international stage.

The Afrobreak International Championship arrives at a pivotal time for the global breaking community. Following the sport’s historic inclusion and widespread media exposure during the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, there has been a renewed global interest in street dance—and Ghana is poised to take center stage.

At the forefront of this movement is Nana Tuffour Okai, known widely in the dance world as Bboy Lyricx. Serving as the Artistic Director of Afrobreak Ghana, he sees this qualifier as more than a competition; it’s a cultural awakening.

“We are at a crossroads where dance is not just an art form but a voice for our youth,” Bboy Lyricx shared. “Through partnerships with EIB Networks, GHOne TV, and StarrFM, we’re leveraging national media platforms to give breaking and street dance the strategic visibility it deserves—especially now, in this post-Olympics era.”

The event enjoys strong institutional support, with major partnerships that reflect its international ambition. The French Embassy in Ghana, Tropisme (France), and the Breaking Federation of Ghana have joined forces to bring resources, expertise, and visibility to this critical qualifier.

These collaborations reflect a growing cultural exchange between Ghana and France, particularly around hip-hop and street dance culture. Tropisme, a French creative hub known for its innovative approach to urban arts, has been instrumental in supporting the Afrobreak movement across Africa and Europe.

“Our partnership with the French Embassy and Tropisme reflects a shared belief in the power of dance as a bridge between communities, cultures, and continents,” added Bboy Lyricx.

The Ghana qualifier promises a day full of excitement, education, and empowerment. Key highlights of the event include:

  •  7-to-Smoke Breaking Battle – Featuring the best Bboys and Bgirls from across Ghana, battling for a place in the Afrobreak International Championship finals.
  •  7-to-Smoke All Style Battle – An open-format battle showcasing versatility across Afro, Hip-Hop, House, Dancehall, and more.

  •  Kids Battle – Spotlighting young talent and encouraging the next generation of dancers to express themselves through movement.

  • Dance Workshop – Led by experienced local and international instructors, offering participants a chance to sharpen their skills and deepen their understanding of the culture.

The day will also feature guest DJs, MCs, and community showcases that celebrate the diversity and creativity of Ghana’s dance ecosystem.

Winners of the Ghana Qualifier will go on to represent the country in the Afrobreak International Championship finals happening on 20- 23 November 2025, competing against top dancers from across Africa. It’s not just about winning titles; it’s about representing Ghana’s voice on a global stage where the world is finally paying attention to African street culture.

The Afrobreak International Championship Ghana Qualifier is free and open to the public, with activities running throughout the day. Whether you’re a dancer, a fan, or someone who believes in the power of culture to transform lives, this is an event not to be missed.
